Join Robin Rothenberg, internationally renowned Yoga Therapist, author and educator, facilitating for the first time in Australia. Based on her revered text, Restoring Prana: A Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath, Robin will offer in this comprehensive workshop, a roadmap and tools so you can breath well for the rest of your life!

Unique in it's orientation, this course provides critical information for Yoga Teachers, Therapists, Health-care Practitioners and anyone interested in improving the quality of their breath.

About the Facilitator

Robin Rothenberg, Board Member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), specialises in supporting people with respiratory, immune, and structural imbalances to regain their health through the combined tools of yoga and therapeutic breathing practices. Since the pandemic, Robin has particularly focused her work on assisting people with Long-COVID and is considered one of the top Yoga Therapists in the field on respiratory conditions. In addition to working with clients one-on-one, she trains yoga teachers and therapists to be better equipped to work with students with breathing issues, anxiety, and chronic stress. Her text Restoring Prana: A Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath, presciently released in early 2020, has been hailed as one of the most thorough and well-researched books on the topic of pranayama. Robin illuminates the true meaning of Pranayama according to the original yoga texts.

Scientific studies show that poor breathing, often characterised as shallow or rapid breathing, can have significant negative implications on both physical and mental health, including increased stress levels, reduced cognitive function, muscle tension, elevated blood pressure, and even disruptions in the body's autonomic nervous system balance, potentially contributing to conditions like anxiety and poor sleep quality.

Breathing Myths

Many common breathing cues and practices simply do not hold up to respiratory physiology or the ancient Yogic texts on prānāyāma. These include:

Myth #1: The More We Breath the Healthier We Are
Myth-Buster#1: More Isn’t Better

Myth #2: Taking a Bigger Breath Oxygenates Us More
Myth-Buster#2: Bigger Breathing De-oxygenates us

Myth #3: Taking a Deep Breath Means Taking a Big Breath
Myth-Buster#3: Deep Isn't the Same as Big

Myth #4: Our Need for Oxygen Governs Our Respiratory Rate
Myth-Buster #4: Carbon Dioxide Regulates Our Respiratory Rate

Myth #5: Carbon Dioxide Is Toxic and a Full Exhale Clears Space in the Lungs for Oxygen
Myth-Buster #5: Carbon Dioxide Is Critical for Maintaining Homeostasis (Health)

Myth #6: It Is Important to Empty the Lungs of Air
Myth-Buster #6: The Lungs Always Maintain a Residual Volume (RV) of Air
