The Sax Koto quartet are thrilled to present an exciting new collaboration with the Jazz Haus Canberra and Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

“These musicians open doors to magical musical places… Their inventiveness, musicality, sensitivity, responsiveness, and depth of sound and feeling can bring a complete sense of peace and calm – or a dark mystery – or a ray of sunshine.” Sandy Evans

The ensemble boasts remarkable credentials.

Sandy is an internationally renowned saxophonist and composer with a passion for improvisation and new music. She has played with and written for some of the most important groups in Australian jazz since the early 1980s and has toured extensively in Australia, Europe, Canada and Asia.

Satsuki Odamura, a master of the Koto and Shamisen, has significantly influenced the appreciation of these traditional Japanese instruments in Australia through her performances and teaching.

Sohrab Kolahdooz, renowned for his percussive prowess, brings a rich tapestry of sound that complements Sandy Evans’ inventiveness as a saxophonist and composer.

Steve Elphick is one of the treasures of Australian improvised music, known for his distinctive double bass playing.

This concert will be a magical evening that transcends cultural boundaries and celebrates the freedom of the human spirit. It is an essential experience for enthusiasts of cross-cultural music.
