Steve Hunter will electrify the Tuggeranong on Saturday 14 June, when he brings his stella band to perform at the Jazz Haus Canberra at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Featuring Matt McMahon on keys, Gordon Rytmeister on drums and guitarist Ben Hauptmann, The Steve Hunter band will perform a mix of Hunter’s original compositions, plus interpretations of music by icons like Chick Corea and Miles Davis. They are also be offering a master class for only $10.
Virtuoso bassist, prolific composer, Steve Hunter formed his first band at age 18 in 1978 and has had a band ever since. He has released ten albums of his original music, and contributed compositions and recorded with dozens of other artists and bands. His music draws inspiration from jazz, Latin, African, and funk styles. He has released several solo albums, including Cosmos and Before the Lights Go Out.
His current line up have been together and playing regularly for seven years. Internationally, he has worked with artists Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Mark Isham, and Bobby Previte and Australian artists Mark Simmond’s Freeboppers, Dale Barlow, Joseph Tawadros Trio, James Muller, Bandaluzia, Tree and The Translators among many others.
Before the concert, all four members of the Steve Hunter Band will present a master class on individual instrument techniques for electric bass, piano, guitar and drums as well as elements of working with a group such as improvising, live performance, and learning and development of material.
