Environmental Film Festival is back, running 16-23 October and celebrating our 15th year by returning to the cinema where we first started, Palace Kino!
Saturday, the 18th of October, we’re joined by Monash University for a reflection on energy and First Nations justice with ‘These Sacred Hills‘ (2024) and shorts from the Aboriginal action group, Original Power.
Facing an existential threat from a proposed green energy project, the Rock Creek Band of the Yakama Nation fight to protect their sacred sites and cultural resources. In a last-ditch effort to be heard, they open their community and reveal parts of their sacred culture for the first time.
Take a deep dive into energy, Indigenous sovereignty and the politics of power, with this Australian premiere screening, two Aboriginal shorts on solar energy and self-determination from Original Power, and a brief insight from behind-the-scenes.
Presented in partnership with Monash University.
Environmental Films Australia is a volunteer-run community group based in Naarm (Melbourne) that promotes action through cinema, community and connection. We prioritise climate and environments through film, provide platforms for artists to showcase their work, and create space for people to connect and exchange solutions.
