Len Castle

Len Castle (b. 1924) is an extraordinary man and artist who has worked relentlessly and passionately in his chosen medium since becoming a full-time potter in 1963.

Len Castle is one of this nation's foremost artists. In 2003 he was appointed a ‘New Zealand Arts Icon’ by the New Zealand Arts Foundation, given in recognition of his lifelong contribution to ceramic arts in New Zealand. Beyond this country Len Castle’s reputation extends internationally with his work eagerly collected overseas.

Len received a CBE for Services to Pottery in 1986, a New Zealand Commemorative Medal in 1990 and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Auckland in 2004.
