Ben Folds Five announce new album

After a tweeted photograph in January this year promising the first Ben Folds Five release in over a decade-with the words “It’s happening fo sho”, the trio have kept their promise with a fourth studio album coming in September.

The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind is slated for a September 18 release in the US and is the first since 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner.

The new release was created via the now oft-used crowd-sourcing method, funding the record through a PledgeMusic campaign. According to Spin.com, fans paid over $2,500 to get their names in one of the band’s tracks and to receive the album early. Much of the profits will go toward music education and therapy charities.

This November, Ben Folds Five will head Down Under to join Harvest Festival on its tour dates in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The new effort will feature the tracks:

Erase Me
Michael Praytor
Five Years Later
Sky High
The Sound of the Life of the Mind
On Being Frank
Draw a Crowd
Do It Anyway
Hold That Thought
Away When You Were Here
Thank You For Breaking My Heart

The band announced their split in October 2000 before songwriter/vocalist/pianist/composing genius Ben Folds went on to record six solo albums. He was last in Australia in May 2011 supporting collaborative effort (with author Nick Hornby) Lonely Avenue.
