Pussy Riot release new single hours after sentencing

Hours after the three members of Pussy Riot were found guilty of "hooliganism driven by religious hatred" and sentenced to two years in jail, the feminist punk band released a new single called Putin Lights Up The Fires, through The Guardian.

In terms of international focus, political punch and good-old-fashioned timing, this song may go down as the single most important piece of music released in recent history. Putin Lights Up The Fires certainly pulls no punches lyrically: a translation that has been floating around online features the following lines.

"Putin ignites the fires of revolution/ He was bored and frightened people in silence/ Whatever punishment he had - that rotten ash/ With no time in many years - the reason for pollution"

The full track, and video (made by The Guardian) can be seen here. What it actually sounds like isn't the point, but for those who like audio presented in word form, it is a chugging riot grrrl punk rock song, not unlike the first Bikini Kill EP.
