The world's most cashed-up DJs

Dutch trance producer Tiesto has topped the Forbes list of Electronic Cash Kings. The trance wunderkind earned $22 million last year, and averages a nightly gross of $250,000.

The list ranks the ten highest paid stars of dance music and includes the likes of Swedish House Mafia ($14m), crown prince of dubstep Skrillex, who ranked number 2 with $15m, and surprisingly Jersey Shore star DJ Pauly D - who ranked 7th with $11m.

Earning almost half his income from DJ gigs, the very punchable personality was named resident DJ at a popular Atlantic City resort earlier in the year, also reportedly earning $100,000 per episode for his work on the hit MTV show, as well as having recently launched his spin off, The Pauly D Project.

Chronically outspoken producer Deadmau5, who was recently engaged in an unintentionally comical Twitter war with Pauly D, ranked just above the focus of his ire with $11.5m in earnings.

Forbes estimates the earnings from live shows (which for some of the artists on the list is more than $100,000 per show), recorded music sales, endorsements and merchandise sales.

Listmakers Tiesto and Avicii will be earning some dollars in Australia later this year as part of the huge Stereosonic lineup; Kaskade will also be here in January for the 2013 Big Day Out.
