Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia changes 2013 venue and date

Fashionistas listen up - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW for those in the know) has changed its location from the International Passenger Terminal to industrial warehouse and eventspace Carriageworks in Eveleigh.

Australia designer, Lisa Ho said about the new site: "Change is good. I worked on the costume design for the Olympics Opening Ceremony here (Carriageworks) - it was our undercover headquarters – so it’s always been recognised as a secret artistic hub for the creative community". An artistic hub, yes, but a secret hideout is probably a bit of a stretch.

Carriageworks had hosted Sydney Biennale performance art, Finders Keepers markets, clothes swaps, the 25 years of rage celebrations and artwork, a number of plays, gigs and other artistic and cultural events, as well as a couple of my univeristy exams.

The move to the inner west after 10 years on The Rocks was one of the bigger concerns for organisers, IMG Fashion, who felt it had "outgrown its waterfront location" (Sydney Morning Herald) and Carriageworks as a venue had heaps more space -in fact 87,000 square foot of it.

"Carriageworks provides thirty five per cent more physical space" said Peter Levy, Senior Vice President & Managing Director of IMG Fashion Worldwide. "This means we can offer increased infrastructure at the same reduced investment we did in 2012".

Nothing to do with the fact that the industrial reno'd warehouse DIY space à la New York, Berlin and Manchester is just SO hot right now? Nah, couldn't be.

MBFW will strut its stuff from 8-12 April 2013.
