Robert Plant announces Australian tour

Robert "Led Zeppelin" Plant has unveiled a small string of large shows, with concerts booked in AdelaideSydneyMelbourne and Launceston.

The shows complement his appearances at Byron Bay Bluesfest and West Coast Blues 'n' Roots, so there's some Northern Rivers of NSW and Perth action, but oddly no Brisbane and/or Gold Coast.

I should probably mention that he's touring Oz with his current band, Sensational Space Shifters, or "presenting" it, which seems to be the official promotional line, somewhat stealing the thunder of the other dudes in the band putting their energies into it.

The Sensational Space Shifters are a "loose" band,  "inspired by the roots music of Mississippi, Appalachia, Gambia, Bristol and the foothills of Wolverhampton and drawing on influences collected in a lifetime of meander and journeying," so that sounds fun.

One of the band members plays the ritti (a one-stringed African Violin), kologo (African Banjo), and the talking drum - no idea what those are or sound like, but a 2012 Robert Plant and buddies going mid to late era Beatles experimental is probably an aural - and visual, if the tour artwork is any indicator - adventure.

No promises on any Stairway to Heaven renditions.

Tickets go on sale 9am Monday 10 December.
