Weekend Picks: The country's finest festivals, food, fun and farewells

This week around the country, South Australia is serenaded by Sarah Blasko with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Shannon Noll and Hermitude.

The carefully curated St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival kicks off its tour in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, while Elvis Costello headlines A Day On the Green, which will visit the Hunter Valley, Mt Cotton and finish off in Perth next Wednesday.

Barry Humphries’ farewell show Eat Pray Laugh starts this Friday in Perth, giving you just over a week to say goodbye, while The Waterboys say hello. Other goodbyes in the country include Midsumma, on its way out for the year after a fabulous three weeks of queer arts, culture and life.

There’s also the St Kilda Festival, the largest free street festival in the southern hemisphere, running for nine days from Saturday, with all manner of art, culture and sport.

The Blue Mountains go back in time for the Roaring 20s and All That Jazz Festival including a world record attempt for dancing the Charleston.

Discover all things delicious at the Donnybrook Food and Wine Fest in Qld or at one of the many events that are part of Summerside in the Canberra region.

Finally, get the little ones down to see Mickey and all his mates as Mickey’s Rockin’ Road Show pulls up in Hobart.
