Plan your Record Store Day

Record Store Day Australia (April 20) has a number of special vinyl releases to coincide.

These include a Gotye hot pink 12” of State Of The Art which features a previously-unreleased The Chap's State of the Television remix, housed in a matte varnish jacket and exclusive artwork by Rubber House. There are also limited releases from Good Heavens and Hermitude, a Learning Curve compilation called Held Hostage, as well as international Record Store Day releases from Ben Harper, David Bowie, Human League, Pink Floyd, The Verve, MGMT, At The Drive-In, The Cure, Of Monsters and Men, The Roots, Nick Drake, Sex Pistols, Frank Zappa, The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones.

In terms of events happening across the nation, the website lists activities in close to 20 stores around the country. They are:

- Hilltop Hoods are signing at 2pm Blackwood Sound in Adelaide with Golden Era giveaways, plus live performances from Brillig (folk/roots), The Wild Things and Geordie Little (acoustic guitar), plus exclusive vinyl, CD specials and giveaways. 
   
- TITLE in Adelaide has three bands instore performing live from 3pm: The Wireheads; Chihuahua, Chihuahua - sin Una; and Pat Heath (Big Richard Insect).  More to come! Plus specials and stuff, of course.

- Quality Records, on Glenferrie Road, Malvern (VIC) has Deborah Conway performing live, tracks from her new album Stories of Ghosts at 2pm.  Plus heaps of specials from the depths of their stock room.

- Roots Records in Bellingen, NSW is showcasing Mama Kin (aka Danielle Caruana) for a CD signing at noon. Plus live in store performances all day, storewide sale, limited edition vinyl and giveaways. Plus they’re running a competition on their Facebook page for a $100 gift voucher.

- Two stores on Sunshine Coast's Nambour are co-promoting for a big day out.  The Time Machine and Backbeat Records are offering: live music, prizes to be won, mystery lucky dip wax packs, storewide discounts on vinyl.

- Kim Salmon is in store performing live at 3pm at Repressed Records in Newtown, NSW.

- Tiny Ruins is in store at TITLE Surry Hills (Sydney) at 3.30pm to play from her new 10" release Haunts. Plus cultural curators and DJs manning the turntables with records from their own private collections. Plus limited editions, obscurities and general crate digging.

- Rockaway Records in Carindale, Brisbane is hosting Eli Wolfe for a live performance in store, plus oceans of new and pre-loved CDs, DVDs and LPs, and memorabilia as diverse as concert programs to turntables. Remember: Rockaway Records is now in Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre.

- Jet Black Cat in Brisbane has live music from 4pm with Thelma Plum, We All Want To and Morning Harvey. Plus ltd editions galore.

- Leading Edge Music Sale is putting on a party with artists, promos, competitions, treasure hunts, family fun and more.  At 10am they will announce what limited editions they have, all pre-loved vinyl will be half price, special screenings of the movie “Last Store Standing” in their theatre, and the live music starts at 1pm with Rob Dorber, the store’s own ukulele enthusiasts, and the Rod Miller Blues Explosion (aka Tuesday Night Blues Band).

- Music Farmers Wollongong: Family friendly event from noon including a free BBQ, exclusive releases and heaps of bands, including:
•    Bored Nothing (7pm)
•    Tiny Ruins (6pm - hot from her 3.30 gig at Hum on King in Newtown, Sydney))
•    Shining Bird (5pm)
•    Leadfinger (4pm)
•    Peter Black (aka Blackie) (3pm)
•    Michele Madden (2pm)
•    Sweet Lime (1pm)
and DJ The Fonz spinning vinyl between performances.

- Readings St Kilda and Carlton are offering 20% off vinyl all month (stock in store only, and not orders, online or RSDA ltd editions), plus limited editions on the day.

- 78 Records in Perth. Masses of ltd editions on order. Last year there were queues at 6.30am.

- White’s Records in Newcastle have The Gooch Palms and The Nugs performing live from 3pm. Both bands feature on the compilation New Centre of the Universe Volume 2, with other Australian bands Straight Arrows, Super Wild Horses, Raw Prawn and many more.  Available on CD or cassette. Open from 10am.  Plus limited edition specials.

- Iconic Red Eye in Sydney's York Street will showcase Bored Nothing, who play "washed out 90's guitar music on a little 4-track". Likely to be another live band and lots of limited edition specials.

- Baylou and Jayne Denham are playing live at Richmond Records, Richmond, NSW, for a double whammy of country music.  Baylou at noon and Jayne Denham at 1pm. Plus there is 20% off store-wide. 

- Giant secondhand record fair out of the front of the store at Landspeed Records in Canberrra, with more than 2000 secondhand records.  Plus DJs spinning nothing but vinyl all day.

- Newcastle's Odditorium Vintage & Vinyl is offering live local music, record listening booths, vintage clothing sale and "so many freaking records for y'all to go nuts over".

- Mojo Record Bar on York Street Sydney will have five DJs from 2SER playing vinyl sets from 2pm, plus there's a live broadcaston 2SER from the store bteween 6 and 9pm.

- The Record Crate in Glebe, Sydney is running a special screening of Last Shop Standing, the official movie of Record Store Day in the UK. Tickets from Moshtix.
 
- Dixons Recycled across Melbourne are offering 20% of all stock on the day, and if you spend more than $75 you get a free canvas tote.

- Learning Curve is releasing a special Record Store Day compilation with various artists from their roster called Held Hostage. Check out Australian band DEAD!

- Rock Therapy in Daw Park, Adelaide is running a treasure hunt with specially stickered CDs and vinyl hidden in the rack and worth looking for because they're half price, plus a "beat the staff' music challenge  -  get a prize if you come up with a question they can't answer!  Plus 20% off all vinyl.

- Audio Boutique in Mona Vale, Sydney is offering to professionally clean vinyl records for $2 each. Plus great offers on cartridges and associated audio equipment.  Check out their special deal for Facebook Friends on Rega, Audio Technica and Denon turntables.

- Record Exchange in Brisbane will be offering buy 3 and get 2 free, or fill a bag for $5 or fill a bigger bag for $10.  Most are pre-loved but they have around 200,000 in stock, of which around 60,000 are new.

- St Mary's Sound in St Mary's in western Sydney will offer a classical music bonus on Record Store Day Australia. Buy any classical CD or DVD in store and get a free double classical promotional DVD.

- Got any LPs, cassettes or vinyl you don't want?  Take them into Songland at Cooleman Court, Weston (ACT) and stand by for a HUGE sale, all weekend on 21 and 22  April. All proceeds are going to the RSPCA (not to Songland).

- Sound One in Yokine, WA will have a beautifully decorated store for the day, plus lots of stock.

- Leading Edge Echuca promises big discounts on CDs and vinyl.
