First annual Bigsound Music+Design program announced

Bigsound Music+Design is a new conference and showcase program to be held in conjunction with Bigsound, Australia’s 3-day music event in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

The new program explores the intersection of music and all modes of design showcasing interactive, graphic design, digital, industrial design, architecture, production, fashion and film.

Designers have always worked closely with musicians in making album artwork, posters, stage design, film clips, costumes and photos so this is an opportunity for the two industries to come together and discuss current developments where music and design connect.

The White Stripes cover artist and Grammy Award winner Rob Jones of Animal Rummy leads the first announcement of panel speakers alongside leading Australian graphic designers Sonny Day (We Buy Your Kids), Ken Taylor and Christopher Doyle and the man responsible for the new MySpace, Ben Johnston from digital design studio Josephmark.

“The spheres of music and design continually intersect, fuelling each other’s creativity, innovation, and consumption.  The alchemy of the two has profound influence over cult trends and popular culture,” says Bigsound Music+Design curator Romy Willing.

These Music+Design discussions will be held back to back with Bigsound’s 12th annual music program and festival with talks from Amanda Palmer, whose Ted Talk: The art of asking in Febuary this year has clocked over 2 million views, Billy Bragg and Kasey Chambers and performances at night from acts including Xavier Rudd, The John Steel Singers, Citizen Kay and Stonefield.

Bigsound Music+Design 2013 conference will be held on September 10 and 11 with the showcase open to the public on September 11 and 12.

Registration opens on Friday June 14.
