Rabbitohs player apologies for wilful damage

South Sydney Rabbitohs player George Burgess has officially apologised to the community after being charged with smashing a car window in Cairns.

According to the SMH, the 21-year-old NRL player has admitted guilty to two charges of wilful damage to a vehicle after the match on Sunday where the Rabbitohs defeated the Gold Coast Titans 30-24 at Barlow Park.

In a statement released by his club, Burgess says he is aware that he is role model to kids and aims to make sure this behavior doesn’t happen again.

“I have let my team and my family down,” he said, "I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Rabbitohs Members, sponsors and everyone in the community.

“I will learn from my mistake and bounce back stronger and better as a person.”

George Burgess joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs just last year and is one of four Burgess brothers currently signed to the club. He has been stood down by the Rabbitohs while the investigation continues with Queensland Police working with the NRL Integrity Unit to determine the consequences of Burgess’s actions.

He will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 10.
