The New South Wales government has granted Sydney’s Carriageworks an extra 5,000 square metres as part of a new 12 month lease allowance.
The art and performance premises, located in Redfern, experienced two years of strong audience and visitation growth with 100 per cent utilisation. The space can now present large-scale contemporary artistic programs.
The public’s first chance to see the extended space will be at the inaugural Sydney Contemporary art fair next month (September 19 – 22), with fashion week and a food and wine fair set to take place there in 2014.
Carriageworks director Lisa Havilah said attendances at Carriageworks are on track to reach 400,000 people this year and have aims to negotiate with NSW government to permanently license the space.
