Australia’s Craig McLachlan, aka Henry Ramsay from Neighbours has been cast as the sweet transvestite, Dr. Frank N. Furter in the new production of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.
Craig’s new role was announced today by producers, Howard Panter and John Frost who told the Australian Stage, “There is no one who can play the character of Frank N Furter like Craig McLachlan […] Craig oozes that risqué charm that an actor playing Frank needs, as well as bucket loads of sex appeal. He captivated all of us in the audition room and we instantly knew Craig had to play Frank in our new production of The Rocky Horror Show. Audiences are going to love doing the Time Warp with Craig again.”
As well as Neighbors, McLaughlan has performed in theatre and television for over 25 years including a 1993 production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a more recent role as Dr. Lucien Blake in the Doctor Blake Mysteries.
The rest of the cast joining McLachlan will be announced shortly.
The musical premieres in January 2014 in Brisbane at the Lyric Theatre and then heads to Perth’s Crown Theatre in February and Adelaide’s Festival Theatre in March – all three cities haven’t seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show live in over 15 years.
Tickets officially go on sale Monday September 2 and subscriptions to the waitlist have opened at the official website.
