Cuisine Scene: Jasmine Rae talks dessert

"I'll run my knife over it and you let me know when to stop" - The words always sound dangerous to me. Her 'knife,' which is actually a fancy spatula, is wider than my fist and MY eyes are notoriously bigger than my stomach - except when it comes to sweet things that involve the word chocolate, then I'm sure I could 'eat' you under the table. I feel I can safely say this despite the fact that I don't know how much chocolate you eat - because, when it comes to cocoa and sugar, my appetite is insatiable.

I can't get enough of it! I'm an addict and should be banned from places like Kurtosh in Sydney's North where you can take home slabs of your favourite baked or chilled sweets by the pound or kilo. Just tell them the size of the piece you want (however big you want it) and they'll slice it off and weigh it up for you, no questions asked (except which account you'd like to pay from).

It reminds me of a deli… a deli of deliciousness. My 'go-to' tray there at the moment is the cookies and cream slice!! I haven't gotten through all they have to offer yet, but I have a feeling that creamy, crunchy square of magic mixture would be pretty hard to beat.

Another place an addict like me should probably be banned from is Pasticceria Papa in Haberfield. The Ricotta Cakes, Tiramisu, Biscotti, Gelati and any other Italian desert you can think of are lovingly waiting for you in a cabinet that's the length of the entire store (and it’s a long store, by the way). I'm not sure why, but I feel the need to ask for my "Ricotta Cannoli" with a hint of fake Italian accent. They pretend not to notice, which I also appreciate.

Stepping into patisseries like this, for me, feels like stepping into my element. I belong there. It's a world where the amount of calories you can consume are celebrated, there's no shame in asking for a second slice to take home and the Nutella Jars are so huge they are proudly put on display.
