Sal Kimber & The Rollin' Wheel Album Tour

Sal Kimber's third album "Southern Light”, featuring her captivating and close knit band The Rollin' Wheel is out, only to pick accolades, rave reviews and feature album slots across the country. A masterfully crafted collection of nine tracks, “Southern Light” will be launched with a special "Southern Summer Halls Tour" across Victoria through February, stopping in Melbourne at The Toff in Town on Thursday Feb 11 along with newly announced dates in Perth (Thu 3 March at Clancy's Fish Pub), Hobart (Fri Apr 9 at The Grand Poobah), heading to Brisbane (Tue 3 May at Brisbane Unplugged), Wodonga, Tallangatta Valley, Oxley Flats, Alexandria, Bundalaguah, Geelong, Ararat, Bendigo, Margaret River, Sheffield and finishing in Sydney (Fri 6 May at Django Bar).

The tour will see Sal and the band hit the road with with John Flanagan, also launching his new album "There's Another Way to Where You're Going".

Produced and mastered by Shane O'Mara at yikesville studios, “Southern Light” is a rich and and expansive production. Brief yet vast in scope, spanning country, pop, folk, rock, multi-layered instrumentation and rapsodic arrangement.

“Sal was a revelation... Kimber's voice left the concert hall breathless on original tracks ‘Hell and Highwater' and ‘Burrawang’ " - Harvey Rae, The West Australian

"Kimber's raw and ethereal antipodean register was simply stunning to behold” - TheMusic.com.au

"Sal Kimber & the Rollin Wheel are skilled purveyors of smooth hook laden roots-infused pop rock that slides effortlessly into the listeners memory bank." - Graham Blackley, Beat

“Southern Light” is Sal's coming of age album. Unlike the last which was mostly written on the road, rocking out and touring with her band The Rollin' Wheel, “Southern Light” is a more focused offering, inspired by stories and reflections. Sal's vocals are yearning and expressive, sometimes soaring in the mix of rich production, sometimes intimate and raw, but always believable.

You can feel the strength of long time Rollin’ Wheel members Beth Kimber and Cat Leahy. Sal's sister Beth (Buffy) co-wrote opening track and first single - “Stumble in the Dark”. Beth's yearning piano pieces shine while Cat's driving drums steer and set alight many of the tracks.

For “Southern Light” Sal brings together a talented handful of friends to feature on the record including Chris Parkinson of The Yearlings, Rebecca Barnard, Tully Sumner, Louise Woodward and Ben Franz (The Waifs). Shane Omara’s slide, electric and acoustic guitars weave in and out throughout the whole album while bass is held down by Rollin Wheel’s newest member- Richie Rose, giving the Wheel a groovy feel.

Sal Kimber & the Rollin' Wheel’s self titled 2011 album received national and international radio play, took out the Rhythms "Readers Choice Album of the Year" award and firmly established Kimber as one of Australia’s most exciting songwriters. Sal’s solo debut “Sounds Like Thunder” received widespread national airplay, picking up numerous awards including first prize at The Darebin Music Feast’s Songwriting Awards. The past three years has seen Kimber embark on a Canadian tour, support slots for Kasey Chambers, Tim Rogers and The Waifs, a role in Mick Thomas’s acclaimed Vandemonian Lags production; a guest spot on SBS TV’s Rockwiz and a trip to Nashville for the 2014 Nashville Americana festival and conference.
