Grammy Nominated Sofi Tukker To Play Debut Australian Shows This February

Grammy nominated act Sofi Tukker, announced that they will be playing Sydney and Melbourne this February, marking their debut Australian shows.

The New York duo, comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, released their debut EP, Soft Animals, in 2016. The record was embraced globally, charting in over 20 countries, with their hit single, ‘Drinkee’, earning them a 2017 Grammy nomination for ‘Best Dance Recording’.

The EP boasts a unique sound that the music community has heard in years – a heady cocktail that combines global instrumentation with modern technology, while sounding anything but machine-made.

Sofi Tukker’s music is characterised by movement, community and joy. These elements are what they, themselves, describe as the “holy trinity” of their music. Despite their yin-and-yang dynamic and coming from different worlds, the pair shares a deep-rooted spiritual connection around their music.

Recently, Sophie and Tucker have been busy putting together a live show, which fuses together their unique personalities, instrumental skills and their cravings to get a room full of people dancing. In between Sophie’s sensual guitar licks and Tucker’s dynamic bass moves, the duo injects an unforgettable element of physicality to their performance with their own unique instrument, known as the “Book Tree.” Dressed in foliage and standing at over 6’ tall, Tucker and Sophie take turns drumming on actual fabricated hardcover books that trigger sounds in the show. So far, they have already headlined shows in a dozen countries, toured supporting M83 and St. Lucia and played festival in Europe and North America.
