Artist Highlight: Timi Temple On His New Single And Video ‘Sands of Time’

He has long been lurking in the music scene—having played the role of a 4-year old violinist, touring musician and a live guitarist for Kilter. Fast forward to today, Timi Temple is stepping out from his comfort zone—making sure the spotlight is no other man's but his. Armed with a new single and a new music video, Timi is a firecracker ready to explode.

Last 27 October, Australia saw the release of “Sands of Time”, a nostalgic and confessional track Timi wrote 10 years ago. The song is about a “crime” he committed when he was a kid. The story? He turned the heater underneath their fishtank on without anyone from his family knowing about it and so it was left on overnight. He woke up in the morning with the fish afloat the water—pretty much boiled. Confessing he guiltily denied any knowledge of it, the incident was soon forgotten and lost in the sands of time.

“That happened when I was 5 years old. I kinda forgot about it. It wasn’t until I bought another pet, which was another fish, that I remembered the crime,” Timi recalled.

The single was well accompanied by a music video that’s full of abstraction and animation. “It’s exactly like running parallel to the story. It came out to me and it was real. It was not some weird dream.” He also cited one of Dope Lemon’s videos as an inspiration in producing the clip. When asked how did he feel upon watching the video for the first time, Timi blurted out: “It’s a really, really good feeling. I didn’t want it to be a really blatant story. I wanted it to be a li’l bit more visceral.”

So with “Sands of Time” coming fresh off the studio, it really got more intriguing when the next question was raised: are we expecting an EP or an album soon? Turns out Timi already has "lots and lots of songs" already finished that would make a "collection". One thing is for sure though, he is kicking off the new year with a headline show in support of the single and video release. Details for the show are still being ironed out, but it’s definitely one worth looking forward to.
