Franz Ferdinand and MGMT Join Forces For a Double Headline Aussie Tour This July

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand and American rock band MGMT will be joining forces this July for a pair of headline shows. They will be playing at Melbourne's Festival Hall and Sydney's Hordern Pavilion after killing their individual sets at this year's Splendour In The Grass.

The tour will see the return of both bands to Australia in five years. Aside from performing some fan favourites from each of their catalogues, both bands will also play new hits from each of their latest albums, live. Franz Ferdinand are riding on their fifth studio album ‘Always Ascending’ while MGMT are high on the release of their fourth studio album ‘Little Dark Age’. Coincidentally, both albums came out last February.

Since 2002, Glasgow quintet Franz Ferdinand have been supplying the indie-rock scene with UK chart-topping hits including their critically-acclaimed single ‘Take Me Out’. Composed of Alex Kapranos (lead vocals), Dino Bardot (guitar, backing vocals), Bob Hardy (bass guitar), Julian Corrie (keyboards) and (Paul Thompson (drums and percussion), the band have been known for using Russian-inspired theme on their music videos, album and single covers.

MGMT, on one hand, are a psychedelic rock duo made up of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, also formed in 2002. The band have been nominated at the 2010 Grammy Awards for ‘Best New Artist’ award and their single ‘Kids’ vied for the ‘Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals’ award.
