Smartfone Flick Fest Gets Bigger; Returns This September Featuring 29 Aussie and Int'l Films

After a successful, sold out Sydney Opera House run last year, SmartFone Flick Fest (SF3) returns even bigger this September, this time at Event Cinemas in George Street. The home-grown Australian success story now commands an international profile and draws entries from every continent. The 2019 edition will now include the inaugural SF3 Feature film and more Australian and international short films—entirely made on smartphones!

SF3 2019 Full Program:

Sat 14
2pm - SF3 Kids
4pm - SF3 Masterclass hosted by Jason van Genderen
7pm - SF3 Feature, Founders Pick Flick & networking event

Sun 15
4:30pm - VIP and SF360
6pm - SF3 Gala Awards screening

The exciting SF3 Kids is back after last year's popular success. It features the best 12 films by filmmakers 16 years and under. The SF3 Feature is a first for the SmartFone Flick Fest and will be the Australian premiere of 'Blue Moon' by Stefen Harris from New Zealand. Stefen (visiting for the event along with his lead actors) will present the film, live, and will host a special Q&A following the screening. The SF3 Feature screening will also include the SF3 Founders' Pick Flick, 'The Reef' by Sven Dreesbach.

Sunday afternoon's lineup includes the SF360 (VR films) and VIP party and the SF3 2019 Gala Awards, screening the best 15 Australian and international smartphone short films which include entries from Russia, Colombia and France. The red-carpet gala event will see an esteemed judging panel awarding prizes to the winners of each category. Winning filmmakers, creatives and actors will share in a prize pool worth in excess of $40,000. There's a People's Choice Award too and the official selection of films will be available to view online after the gala where the general public can also vote for their favourite.

SF3's newest ambassador, Australian/Hollywood Director Phillip Noyce says smartphone filmmaking is the way of the future. "A smartphone is a one-stop-shop for filmmakers: you can shoot a film on your phone, you can edit on your phone, you can even get distribution. That's why I'm supporting this festival!" Fellow SF3 ambassador, Australian actor David Wenham says: "A filmmaker with a smartphone is only limited by the boundaries of the imagination." Noyce and Wenham join Nicole da Silva and Christopher Stollery as the SF3 ambassadors.

Grab your tickets and celebrate the power of smartphones in capturing moments and telling stories at SmartFone Flick Fest 2019!
