About Oriana Choir

Located on Queensland's lively Sunshine Coast, Oriana Arts Inc. is a community-based non-profit featuring the highly acclaimed, multi-award-winning  Oriana Choir and the Sunshine Coast Youth Choir.

With over 90 members aged 8 to 65, Oriana brings together people from all walks of life from teachers, accountants and doctors to students, musicians and retirees for weekly rehearsals.

Oriana Arts Inc. is dedicated to creating exceptional choral groups and delivering innovative, high-quality musical experiences to audiences in southeast Queensland and beyond. They’ve recently switched their ticketing to TixSuite.

What sort of events does Oriana put on?

We do around three major concert events per year. One big classical work, a contemporary/popular music show and then something more choral.

Chris Mills, Webmaster & Oriana Ensemble Manager explained the variety of work their choirs perform,

“We do around three major concert events per year. One big classical work, a contemporary/popular music show and then something more choral. For example, we did a very successful show called Dancing Queen, an Abba and Queen tribute show.”

After the disruptions of COVID-19, they are now settling back into a normal yearly pattern of shows. 

“The classical works have a higher ticket price of about $50 per ticket. The choral concert is between $35 – $40 and the contemporary works are around $45 – $50.”

How did you first hear about TixSuite?

I had some frustrations with our existing ticketing system and thought it was too expensive so TixSuite was a breath of fresh air.

“A TixSuite ad came up on my Facebook feed.” said Mills, “I was already familiar with Eventfinda and I was keen to find out more. I had inherited a ticketing system which the organisation had been using for quite some time so I was ready to look into other options.”

Some venues hired by the choir have their own ticketing systems but most often, Oriana provides and manages the ticketing to their events.

“I had some frustrations with our existing ticketing system and I thought it was too expensive so TixSuite was a breath of fresh air,” said Mills.

As the choir's manager, Mills was keen to find out as much as he could about TixSuite before making the switch. He used the TixSuite online explainers and web page to help him get to know the product better. 

“I watched the explainer video on the website before I had a good look at what the product offered. All the resources were very comprehensive so by the time I spoke to anyone I had made up my mind that I was ready to move. I needed to be really educated on the product to be able to present it to our committee to get their buy-in so the level of information was absolutely perfect and enough to get me sold.”

Why did you decide to switch to TixSuite?

We have reduced our costs a lot by moving to TixSuite. It was a no-brainer.

“It was a combination of everything,” recalled Mills, who had specific questions to answer to identify the difference between their current system vs TixSuite. 

He continued, 

“I knew what I wanted and TixSuite ticked all the boxes and some.

The pricing is excellent and the marketing aspect appealed to me as well. We are not-for-profit so any saving is good, and not having booking fees deducted was a winner. We have reduced our costs a lot by moving to TixSuite. It was a no-brainer. “

Due to the structure of their non-profit organisation, it wasn’t just Mills who had to be won over,

“I actually really enjoyed the process of finding out about TixSuite. I put together a proposal to change us over to present to our committee. They all said that it made sense to move our ticketing and that TixSuite looked very straightforward. 

It can be challenging to get everyone on side with new tech when they don’t know what I am doing day-to-day so I did a lot of work to really understand TixSuite’s offer and It went through swimmingly.”

How was the sign up and initial event set up process?

If you’ve used other systems you will find it easy and if you haven’t it’s very simple and user-friendly to enable you to be self-sufficient.

“I did it myself and didn’t find it difficult but the help in the background was great. It was easy to do and I am used to doing online set-ups,” said Mills.

As an experienced event manager, Mills was happy to jump right in and get set up. He said,

“The actual process of setting up events was similar enough to other ticketing suppliers so it was really easy. In fact, it was better, as we could get venues set up in Eventfinda. There are so many venues in Eventfinda already so that saves us a lot of mucking around. I only saw advantages, I couldn’t really see any disadvantages to what was being offered. There were no downsides to switching to TixSuite.”

A new TixSuite account requires the user to connect or set-up a Stripe account in order to receive ticket sale revenue directly and without delay.

“We already had a Stripe account so I went and linked it myself directly in TixSuite and it wasn’t hard at all. I am familiar with Stripe from my other business (but if you had zero Stripe knowledge maybe you need to read the how-to guide). It took me all of 10 minutes to connect it and it’s working perfectly.

It was probably a matter of hours to sign up and set up an event from start to finish. If you have all the info at hand it’s pretty straightforward. If you’ve used other systems you will find it easy and if you haven’t it’s very simple and user-friendly to enable you to be self-sufficient.”

What’s your favourite thing about TixSuite so far?

We now have ticket sales on our website thanks to the Eventfinda TixSuite iframe.

The Oriana Choir audience is varied and some ticket purchasers are less tech savvy than others. TixSuite’s iframe adds a comforting level of familiarity and security for the loyal fan base. 

“We now have ticket sales on our website thanks to the Eventfinda TixSuite iframe so our members who are less familiar with online booking feel more secure,” said Mills.

TixSuite’s reporting is easily accessible and downloadable in the Eventfinda Promoter Portal, and to make things even easier, event organisers also receive a daily sales summary.

“I get a summary email each day, which is great. As we start to get into the busy sales period this will become essential to stay on top of things. If we post a blog post or social media post, it’s interesting to see the impact of that on our sales in the summary email the next day. It saves me from having to log in and check. I can set and forget. We know what’s going on without having to actively look for it.”

When asked which TixSuite feature he was keen to try out Mills said, “I will be using the Ticketholder Communications emails to send out show information or if there is a postponement or cancellation.”

TixSuite’s support and feature guides have already proved useful to Oriana, making set up and going on sale easy. Mills said,

“The support has been outstanding and I’ve happily accessed the online guides when needed. I used the Create an event in TixSuite how-to guide online to do the initial sign up and set up of our first shows. We got our first sales almost immediately after going live.”

TixSuite is shaking up the world of ticketing by eliminating per-ticket fees and handing the reins to the event organiser to set and keep the booking fees. Mills is already seeing the benefits,

Oriana Choir couldn’t be happier after switching to TixSuite. Mills enthusiastically recommended the software,

“It’s all just working, which is fantastic! I haven’t logged in much as I get the emails through daily and the money just comes in. That’s all I need to do at the moment and that’s fantastic. 

I am really confident that if we see a problem it will get fixed and get fixed quickly. That gives me a lot of confidence. These things can be time-consuming so the support I’ve received has been amazing.
