This May, the City of Melbourne, in partnership with First Nations People and Creative Victoria, will create a city-wide ‘blak out’, a moving celebration of local and international Indigenous-led dance, music, visual art, theatre, film, talks and more.

The YIRRAMBOI First Nations Arts Festival activates on 5 to 14 May 2017 as an inclusive ten-day Festival to showcase First Nations artists and performers in Melbourne’s laneways, public spaces and arts venues. YIRRAMBOI aims to deeply engage the local Aboriginal community while also inviting Melbournians to reflect on its past, present and most importantly, its future.

What comes tomorrow is ingrained in the Festival’s vision with the name ‘YIRRAMBOI’ meaning ‘tomorrow’ in the shared languages of Boon Wurrung and Woi Wurrung. Through YIRRAMBOI we invite the community to not only reflect on the past, but dream forward with us.

The Festival is co-created with First Nations people and all works are created, choreographed, produced, directed and performed by Indigenous artists. The Festival is supported by YIRRAMBOI's Elders Council of Kulin Nations people, and celebrates more than 60,000 years of continuous artistic and cultural practice.
