Since its inception in 1980, Theatre Works has always been an alternative voice in Australian theatre. Located in the heart of St Kilda, the company was formed and operated by an ensemble of actors, writers and directors concerned with producing work that both ‘celebrated and disturbed’ suburban audiences. Over the last 38 years, Theatre Works has gone through many changes but remained in the vanguard of contemporary, quality Australian theatre – always true to its core belief in the power of theatre to affect social change.

In 2018, Theatre Works will shine a spotlight on the brave and the beautiful, the strange and unfamiliar, the industry innovators and the future visionaries of the Australian stage. The parish hall will be home to artists and audiences in search of a contemporary theatre language that pushes the boundaries of formal theatre making. With new Australian writing, visual theatre, live art and experimental expression, Theatre Works strives to prove that theatre is essential within a society that is more disparate and diverse than ever.
