Supergrass – 25th Anniversary Tour
Britpop legends Supergrass are hitting Aussie roads this April through to May. Coinciding with their recently-announced scheduled performances at Groovin' The Moo, the band will be doing headline shows in Perth, Melbourne (two shows), Sydney, Brisbane and Wollongong.
The exciting news follows the band's announcement in 2019 that they were reforming after a 10-year split, to tour the United Kingdom, Europe and North America in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album 'I Should Coco'. Just moments before the band's critically-acclaimed surprise reunion show at Glastonbury's Pilton Party last September, frontman Gaz Coombes told NME:
"We've had an intense week of rehearsing to get back into the swing and it's sounding pretty amazing. We just plugged in and started playing, and you just feel those moves that we all play together. It's like our legs are tied with rope. It's quite bizarre, but I guess that chemistry never goes away."
Since forming in Oxford UK in 1993, Supergrass have received nods from the BRIT Awards, NME Awards, Q Awards and Ivor Novello Awards. They have also been widely-recognised as one of the most important bands to emerge during the 1990s. They first broke onto the Britpop scene with their Mercury-nominated UK #1 debut album 'I Should Coco' in 1995, with its fourth single 'Alright' catapulting the band to global success. Five acclaimed studio albums followed—'In It For The Money' (1997), 'Supergrass' (1999), 'Life On Other Planets' (2002), 'Road To Rouen' (2005), 'Diamond Hoo Ha' (2008)—before they announced their split in 2010, with all members going on to lead successful solo careers.
Australian alt-rockers Rocket Science will be joining Supergrass at all shows. Hailing from Melbourne, the band are known and loved for their signature blend of garage, psych and post-punk, showcased in iconic tracks like 'Burn In Hell', 'One Robot' and 'Being Followed'. They released 'Snake' in August 2019—their first album since disbanding 11 years earlier—and spent the months that followed touring the country with their renowned live show.
With their arsenal of hits which includes 'Lenny', 'Going Out', 'Richard III', 'Pumping On Your Stereo' and 'Sun Hits The Sky', Supergrass are sure to put on a series of mind-blowing shows—book your tickets fast!
