AQWA is a privately run company dedicated to generating wonder and respect for the marine life of Western Australia. Our origins, business philosophy and practices are linked to the marine passion and entrepreneurial spirit of our owners.

In the 1970′s, the founder of Coral World International, Morris Kahn, was scuba diving in the Red Sea with his son Benjie during a family holiday.

Benjie had finished his dive and was heading back to the surface, however he was ascending too quickly. To stop his son from hurting himself, Morris swam after him and in the process damaged his own eardrums.

Morris spent the rest of the holiday on the beach as he was then unable to dive and whilst sitting alone, he began to think what it would be like to never be able to dive again. That moment of inspiration developed and grew into an appreciation to provide an opportunity for people who would otherwise never have the chance to see all that life under the ocean.

This was the impetus for the development of Coral World. The family developed a team to build large scale aquariums around the world. Underwater World in Perth was purchased by Coral World in 1991.

Coral World is now recognised around the world for its unique ability to recreate the complex marine environments and grow coral within aquariums – a feat that many others do not even attempt, let alone accomplish! With over 25 years of excellence in marine aquarium design, and outstanding aquariums operating in Maui (Hawaii), Mallorca (Spain), Eilat (Israel) and Perth, the passion continues and we proudly invite you to share our love of the ocean.
