After being tenants—from 1975, occupying just a wing of the premises—in 2001 Canberra Potters' Society took over the management of the whole of the Watson Arts Centre, comprising, in addition to the main workshop, a 129 sq m gallery, 3 studios, and office space. They then set up Potters Place, a retail shop to sell members' work and pottery supplies, expanded the library, and established a members-only workshop with 24-hour access. In 2008, they built a new 150 sq m kiln shed, which has 5 electric kilns and 3 gas kilns, and a separate glazing room. In 2011, 5 new studios and a residence for visiting artists were added. 2 of the old studios have been converted into an additional classroom and a store room for exhibition material.
