Beechworth is known for many things, mostly Ned Kelly, but many aren’t aware that the Empire Hotel is the only hotel in town that, since it was originally built, has burnt down and been rebuilt three times. The last time was in 1871.

In June 2014, its current owners Gerard and Karen Kearney bought the hotel. Their main aim was to introduce some life back into the grand old building.

Karen and Gerard introduced meals to the Empire Hotel, as well as the $10 lunch menu. The $10 lunch menu is a huge hit with locals and tourists alike.

From the warm welcome when you first walk in to great cold beer or delicious local wine, the atmosphere and hearty good value meals mean that the Kearneys are here to stay.
The Empire Hotel boasts the only full TAB in Beechworth, and you can view races and sporting events on any of the 21 screens located around the bar area.
