32 St Johns Road, Glebe, Sydney
Teaching someone a skill is one thing, addressing that person’s rights is another. Rights are long-term guarantees, a set of structural claims or entitlements that enable people, particularly the most vulnerable and excluded in society, to make demands on those in power. Rights are bound up with notions of citizenship, participation and power.
The Glebe Justice Centre is a newly established not-for-profit organisation with a rights-based approach to community development. It aims to increase access to justice through strengthening pathways to existing services, providing additional community services as needed, and facilitating capacity-building programs to enable all citizens to respond more effectively to local issues and concerns. The Glebe Justice Centre works collaboratively with existing community groups and service providers.
Grounded in an evidence-based approach, the Glebe Justice Centre will base its activities around three areas: advocacy for local issues; provision of legal and mediation services; community leadership and capacity-building.
