The Italian Institute of Culture, Melbourne, an official body of the Italian State, aims to promote and diffuse Italian language and culture in the states of South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria. This is carried out by organising cultural events and language courses in order to stimulate the circulation of ideas, the arts and sciences.

Services

The Italian Institute of Culture, Melbourne, offers the following services to the Australian public

Italian language and cultural courses conducted by qualified native speaker teachers
an annual examination in order to obtain a diploma of Italian as a Second Language (Certificazione IT).

An Italian library available for use by Institute students and members. Books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and Italian newspapers may be consulted and in some cases borrowed
information and flyers pertaining to Italian culture.

Collaborations

For many concerts, exhibitions and major events, the Institute collaborates with:
local galleries and museums such as the Immigration Museum, Melbourne Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria and the State Library of Victoria.

Prestigious musical institutions such as Monash University (School of Music), Melbourne City Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Victorian College of the Arts
government institutions such as the City of Melbourne, the Organising Committee of Melbourne and the State of Victoria.

The main Festivals with which the Institute is usually actively involved are: the Italian Film Festival, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Melbourne International Film Festival, Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields Festival, the Swiss Italian Festa, Umbria Jazz and the Woodend Winter Arts Festival.
