Kahmon

Kahmon was co-founded by Ken and Satomi in 2000 at the existing Barbican Street shop. They moved here as it was always their dream to live in beautiful Australia. Being in the food and beverage industry, it was only natural for Ken to use his culinary expertise in his newly adopted country. As there were no Japanese restaurants in the area, his vision was to offer authentic affordable Japanese food to the local community for their enjoyment.

Like many Japanese steep in the traditions of hard work, discipline and excellence, they worked long hours to make Kahmon a growing success. Their typical day would start at 10am and they would only close at 9pm.

Over the years, Kahmon has developed a unique reputation of serving amazing Bentos that are fresh, artistic, flavourful and yet priced very reasonably. Because of Ken’s obsession with precision preparation and cooking to ensure the highest quality, some customers found the service a bit lacking and “grumpy” at times. However, this only endeared the loyal customers who would faithfully wait patiently for great food. Many customers have become firm friends and Ken recalled an incident where a customer gave him a crate of beer! Up to now, he still does not know why he got it.
