Mermaid Beach Bowls Club

Mermaid Bowls first began with a humble clubhouse, complete with all its fittings, purchased for just 150 pounds! Originally 85 feet by 25 feet, the clubhouse’s was originally constructed as an army hut. Cut in two and transported to Mermaid Beach, this was just the beginning of what has become a local favourite on the Gold Coast.

The Mermaid Bowls club prides itself in providing a space for new and inexperienced members, and holds true to these values to this day. A ladies club was formed on Easter Sunday in 1962, after the appointment of Mrs Ann Bragg as club president. This memorable day was not the first, and has not been the last for Mermaid Bowls.

Mermaid Bowls was officially opened on June 29, 1963, complete with two of the finest greens on the Gold Coast. Mr Bill Diamond, President GCDBA, has the honours of opening the club in the presence of Mr Eric Faux, President of RQBA, our Patron Mr Eric Gaven MLA and approximately 200 representatives of associations clubs and local citizens.

The snake infested swamp that used to take over the area has successfully been turned into a valuable asset and local hotspot in Mermaid Beach, all in just 18 short months.
