Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School is a systemic co-educational
school located in Kensington in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and has a current enrolment of 456 students. There has been a steady increase in enrolments over the last couple of years, and it is expected that this will continue as many new families move into what used to be an ageing community. Students attending this school come from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities, with 60% of the student population with a language background other than English, comprising 21 different nationalities.
Our Lady of the Rosary is a two-stream, two-campus school divided by a public road. The property is well maintained through the ongoing support of parents and parishioners. A major building upgrade was made possible due to additional funding support from the Federal Government’s Building the Educational Revolution (BER). The P21 project, under the BER, was completed in November 2011 and has created an extension to the existing library and six new classrooms. These changes to the site allow for greater flexibility to teaching structures and the delivery of contemporary pedagogy.
A feature of OLR is our Pastoral Care ethos which is based on our conviction that each person is God’s special handiwork, uniquely gifted and deserving to be treated with dignity and respect. We encourage the members of our community to continually strive ‘to be on earth the heart of God’. At OLR everyone has the right to be safe, to be happy, and to learn in a supportive environment. Our Pastoral Care and Behaviour Management are embedded within Restorative Justice Practices.
