Website
Princess May Park is located in the city centre between Adelaide and Cantonment Streets and at their intersection with Parry Street. An important public open space, the reserve contains significant heritage buildings including the Fremantle Boys’ School, the Fremantle Education Centre and Clancy’s Fish Pub.
Until the 1970s the site was used for the Princess May Girls’ School and the Fremantle Boys’ School and their associated playgrounds and out-buildings. With the closure of the schools and opening of the reserve as a public park, there were sweeping changes to the reserve’s landscape with the removal of almost all the hard landscaping and its replacement with grass and new plantings of trees and shrubs, together with re-contouring of the landform in the landscape fashion of the time.
