Art is for everybody. There is no discussion on what is art-worthy and what not, and everyone should feel free to express themselves with whatever they want to.

The ARCCO Gallery is exactly this space for everybody who seeks to share their works with the community. It is an alternative art space that maintains integrity and diversity and moreover is overtly accessible. The ARCCO Gallery is democratising its space.

This democratising space is guaranteed by certain principles. The ARCCO does not take any commissions from the artists. They can rent our gallery for a flat fee of $500 a week and are allowed to do whatever is on their mind with the near 120 sqm of art space. We do not curate the ARCCO Gallery.

“The project of democratising space frees you in your artistic work. It is the art that counts, not how much you are selling. There is no right or wrong. Whatever they like is good” says local artist Francis Hayes, who had an art show at the ARCCO Gallery in April and May 2013 together with three friends.

“Presenting at the ARCCO Gallery has given us the chance to work towards a special date and see the results in a clear space, separated off into some environment different from home. Then we could access how we are going and where we want to go next. It is a great space to get together, improve on your work and have some fun. You get to talk to other people.”

The ARCCO Gallery is fully supported by the ARCC Organisation through its social enterprise component of its overall program. We do not receive government funding therefore we rely on the weekly rent to sustain the space and accessibility. We also put on free collaborative shows for the artists in residence at the ARCC, as part of the in kind grant we provide for them.
