In 2004 a team of award-winning filmmakers and teachers left The University of Sydney’s UBS Film School, where they had been working together for ten years. With a board of leading industry representatives and international professionals, the team established the Sydney Film School.
“Sydney Film School aspires to be a gateway between the Eastern and Western film cultures, continuing to build strong local relationships, while attracting and interacting with students and practitioners from around the world.” - Dr John Saunders, chairman.
In February 2005 in front of a large crowd The Hon. Bob Carr, Premier of NSW & Minister for the Arts, launched the Sydney Film School in its Waterloo warehouse premises: “I congratulate all who have worked to bring this enterprise to fruition, and, as we launch it tonight, we have a vision of the Australia, this city of Sydney, and this community of Redfern, that will reflect all the creativity that Australia is going to need for many years ahead”.
Sydney Film School is now Sydney’s fastest growing filmmaking community made up of current students, graduates and teachers, all working together towards common goals: to learn, to grow, to make good films to be seen by audiences worldwide.
