The Moe Racing Club is widely considered one of Victoria’s youngest and most vibrant racing clubs as it was not considered fully up and running until 1945 even though the Racing Club has a long history dating back to the 19th century. The club was first established and held their first race meeting as the Moe Turf Club in May 1890. From this point onwards the club would struggle as over the year’s interest began to wane. Over the next several decades the racing club would fold 3 times, reforming in 1985 as the Moe Amateurs Racing Club then again in 1909 as the Moe District Racing Club. After a long period of diminishing attendance and race meetings the club finally went into a long recess in 1929 in the midst of the great depression. It wasn’t until almost 20 years later that the racing club reformed and held its first race meeting on January 15th 1945 as the Moe Racing Club.

Since that day the club has progressed in leaps and bounds expanding its facilities and in 1994 built the Turfside Tabaret with the vision of offering our patrons more than just raceday facilities. Over the years Turfside has expanded to encompasses a modern restaurant, TAB sports bar and lounge, gaming facilities and one of Gippsland’s largest function centres. In recent years the club underwent a two million dollar renovation to the Turfside venue making it a more comfortable modern facility to enjoy.

The Moe Racing Club closed for racing in season 2012/2013 and part of 2013/2014 to undergo a total track reconstruction. The choice to do this has meant that the Moe Racing Club has been able to install one of the best racing surfaces, an all weather StrathAyr track. At a cost of over $5million, this has been a massive expense to the club but a worthwhile one with the clubs future now firmly secured in the racing industry and securing jobs and revenue for the local area.

It is due to this that the Moe Racing Club is one of the most progressive racing clubs in country Victoria and has previously been crowned Country Club of the Year two times. Being a not for profit organisation the club gets involved with the local community and organisations and prides itself as being an integral part of the local community.
