Built in 1887 from locally-made bricks and originally named Hotel Toronto, the Toronto Hotel has been the best-known landmark in the entire history of the township. Standing on one of the prettiest spots overlooking the beautiful Lake Macquarie, in its own grounds of some twenty acres, the hotel commands a fine view of a splendid reach of water extending to the little village of Belmont. The extensive grounds were laid out with croquet lawns, lawn tennis court, bowling greens, and at one time, boasted a grand swimming pool. Billiards was one of its well known games and still today, the pool tables stand in the sports bar. You can find many locals and visitors popping in daily to grab a hearty, traditional Pub Meal from the Bistro 7 days of the week, for lunch and dinner, with daily specials starting on Thursday evening over the course of the weekend.

Purchased by the Bortoli Family in 1993, the Hotel was in much need of solid ownership. Known locally as a ‘bit rough’ and in need of some ‘TLC’. With a vast background in hotel ownership on the NSW South Coast, the Bortoli’s have rebuilt its clientele supporting many local sporting clubs and community events as well as local musicians. The Pub is now known as a family friendly Hotel, a traditional Aussie Workers Pub with the best views of Lake Macquarie. Over the years, Toronto Hotel had undergone numerous alterations and renovations throughout its lifetime. In the past 2 years, the historical cast iron veranda has been restored and over the next 5 years, the Hotel will make another new transformation.
