The Totem Theatre is a heritage listed venue. The two main buildings, known as Sidney Williams Huts, were originally constructed in 1945 by the Australian Army. The building which now houses the theatre was remodelled in 1964, and has been the focus of community theatre in Alice Springs ever since.
Totem Theatre is home to Alice Springs Theatre Group (ASTG), who manage the venue as well as produce amateur theatre productions for the entertainment of the Alice Springs community. ASTG was started in 1935 and has been prolific in providing the community with the chance to ‘tread the boards’. Many plays and musicals have been produced over the years.
