Waurn Ponds Library was officially opened on 3 February 2012 by Cr John MItchell, Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong, Darren Cheeseman MP, Member for Corangamite and David Morris MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government. Waurn Ponds Library has a prime position beside the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre and Leisurelink aquatic and fitness centre, and is well serviced by public transport. Free car-parking areas extend on two sides of the library, which is open seven days a week. The award-winning two-storey building was designed by Whitefield McQueen Irwin Alsop, and opened in December 2011. A children’s area on the ground floor features Play & Learn computers, a semi-outdoor reading deck, and a family room. The first floor offers flexible areas for reading and study, and large non-fiction and young adult collections.
