Zaaffran Indian Restaurant

The elegant and unique Zaaffran Indian Restaurant was established in 1998 with one simple aim ‘to serve authentic, homestyle Indian cooking, just like Indian mums would make’.

Chef/Partner Vikrant Kapoor says 'Indian Mums make nutritious dishes, with robust flavours and rustic undertones. Zaaffran serves similar cuisine but it ensures that the flavours are well-balanced and that the presentation is contemporary. It believes that food should not only please the palate but also the eyes.'

Subsequently, Zaaffran's mission took shape—to prove that Indian cuisine can be as subtle and finely balanced as any of the world's greatest cuisines.

Vikrant says: "We chose the name Zaaffran (meaning saffron), because it is the world's most valuable spice. Our menu, which changes frequently, does have some traditional favourites but our emphasis is on unique, rare and treasured recipes, gleaned from royal households of India, not from commercial Indian kitchens."
