Morwell German Club

The "Club Astoria" or more defined, the "German Australian Society in Morwell", Victoria was established in October 1957 at the Melodie Inn Café. Our first members came to a faraway land with different customs as well as a different language. It was a significant challenge for a lot of the German community and there was a need for a place for people with a common interest to get together.

The present building that we continue to occupy today was available for tender from the SEC Yallourn. It was a staff mess hall at the western camp. We applied and were the successful tenderer for the sum of $801.00. The Club building was placed on its present location in 1968, still to this date accommodating up to 100 people for internal and external functions.
