We are delighted to present to you the Australian Medical Students’ Orchestra’s 2019 concert: Drawings of Love.

Drawings of Love is an ambitious concert that will feature iconic works from some of the greatest composers of the last two centuries.

From the early romantic melodies of Felix Mendelssohn, to the bold Soviet-era music of Dmitri Shostakovich and the virtuosic charm of Franz Waxman, AMSO will bring to you, our audience, music from the heart.

The Australian Medical Students’ Orchestra is unique in its ability to bring together medical students from around the country to make and enjoy music. Every year, a new city takes its turn to host AMSO and bring our joy of music to new audiences.

This year the orchestra will be performing a wide variety of repertoire, including:
- Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 in D Minor: last performed in Melbourne by the MSO in 2017, this is a symphony of epic proportions. Be immersed in the grand and bold melodies of arguably the most famous symphony of the 20th Century. It is our honour to perform this work for you.
- Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture: a masterclass in symphonic poetry. Mendelssohn can paint pictures with his music, and we welcome you into his world of rocks and sea spray through this vivid piece.
- Waxman's Carmen Fantasie: a masterful showpiece for solo violin, accompanied by our orchestra, which will introduce you to familiar themes and an impressive virtuosic style.

AMSO will be accompanied by acclaimed violinist Edward Walton. He has already won numerous international competitions, and at the age of just 13, the Australian prodigy will join with us to perform Waxman's Carmen Fantasie.

The orchestra is also fortunate to enjoy the stewardship of internationally renowned conductor Mark Shiell who will be guiding AMSO through ambitious and exciting repertoire.

All of the proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to our two partner charities: Very Special Kids and Beyond Blue.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Drawings of Love. AMSO 2019 is supported by Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund.
