The Strand at Coolangatta’s new Level Up Studio + Gallery will be hosting the Blue Jean Sisters community art project workshop during the school holidays, giving participants the opportunity to have fun while making a difference. The free program invites participants aged 12 and up to make a doll out of reused or recycled denim.
‘Blue Jean Sisters’ is a collaboration between artist Belinda Smith and Outland Denim, an ethical clothing brand based in Mount Tamborine that provides sustainable employment and training opportunities for women who have been rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Every doll made will contribute to the goal of installing 2000 dolls for A Fierce Hope, the keynote exhibition for Brisbane’s newest art and cultural hub, Adderton, opening in July 2019. After the exhibition the dolls will be sent to Cambodia and India to children in orphanages and rescue homes. Find more information on the project at Plummer and Smith website.
