Join Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp for breakfast for a fantastic networking opportunity while raising much-needed funds for the financially challenged students of Boroondara. In addition to meeting Sally, you’ll also hear direct from some of the inspiring scholarship recipients whose lives have changed as a result of the scholarship program.
In Boroondara, there are approximately 3,630 young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years living below the poverty line. These talented young people face challenging financial hardship barriers, which often impacts their ability to complete their education.
That’s why the Boroondara Cares Foundation started their CHANCES Program almost 12 years ago and they’re asking for help from the community to ensure their scholarships can continue.
It is easy for young people from financially underprivileged homes to perceive themselves as second class and this attitude may lead to under-achievement and a descending spiral of disengagement from the education system says CHANCES Program Manager Helen Worladge OAM.
"A 2017 study by independent consultants, Think Impact, found that for every $1 invested in students through the program, more than $13 to $17 of social and economic benefit is derived. This benefit is delivered to the students, their families and the wider community,” said Helen.
“The CHANCES Scholarship Program makes a huge difference and we invite local individuals, groups and businesses to join us for an enjoyable breakfast that will help raise much-needed funds to continue our scholarships.”
