Ita Buttrose AC, OBE is one of the most powerful voices for women across Australia and we’re excited to bring her to the Business Chicks stage this November.
Starting in the journalism industry at the young age of 15, Ita has risen through the ranks to become the media trailblazer she is today with a career spanning over 60 years. Holding a variety of titles ranging from copygirl to women’s editor to editor-in-chief, Ita has worked across acclaimed publications like The Australian Women’s Weekly, Australian Consolidated Press Women’s Division and The Daily Telegraph. As the founding editor of Cleo and the first woman to edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia, Ita solidified her spot as one of the most successful women in media.
Beyond the avid businesswoman and best-selling author’s rich career in journalism, Ita has continued to be a committed community and welfare contributor over the years. Leveraging her media profile, Ita has sparked many conversations around important health issues like breast cancer, prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, earning her the title of 2013 Australian of the Year, and an honorary doctorate of medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2018.
Most recently, Ita was featured in the 2019 Queens’s Birthday Honours list for her service to the community through leadership in the media, the arts and the health sector and as a role model. She was given Australia’s highest honour and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).
So please join us in November where the honourable Ita Buttrose AC, OBE will speak about her journey from copygirl to where she is today, and how she combined it all with her philanthropic ventures along the way. Get ready because this is sure to be one of the most insightful talks you’ll hear this year!
