While Christmas has just wrapped up, it is still a time of rejoicing and festivity—Chinese New Year is right around the corner! Box Hill Central, Melbourne’s iconic destination for Asian culture and cuisine, is set to welcome the Year of the Pig in grand style.

On Saturday 2nd February 2019, the annual Chinese New Year Festival will return to Box Hill Central and is promised to be bigger than ever. Extending from its previous 12-hour format, this year’s event will be a 14-hour non-stop celebration filled with delicious food, wonderful music and spectacular entertainment. The crowd pleaser, lion dance will kick off at 12pm. A wide range of market stalls will host unique and authentic Asian cuisine along with Chinese New Year souvenirs and merchandise.

The celebrations don’t stop there. Box Hill Central will be installing spectacular installations, perfect for creating your 2019 Chinese New Year momento with family and friends. 2019 marks the Year of the Pig and to symbolise the twelfth of all zodiac animals, a 3D illuminated pig will be installed to delight visitors. Rumour has it, rubbing the statue might bring you a year of good fortune. Don’t believe us, go visit and try it for yourself. If that isn’t enough, immerse yourself in Box Hill Central’s very own 3D Chinese New Year photo booth. Inspired by traditional Chinese interiors, this festive set-up will transport you to another world where is packed with cherry blossom and twinkling lights.

Box Hill Central has also carefully curated a list of family friendly activities for everyone to enjoy between 31st January and 17th February. Try your luck at the bespoke Chinese New Year vending machine for a chance to win one of the 1,500 prizes. On 3rd February, learn the art of Chinese calligraphy from a master and see the making of Prosperity Toss Salad in person at noon near the train station. No Lunar New Year is complete without a red envelope. Get yours from Oriental Merchant along with a photo with The God Prosperity on 9th February. Lantern and Origami workshops will also take place on 17th February. For a list of the full program, please visit Box Hill Central website.
