Enjoy an autumn afternoon of music at the Convent with award-winning Lithuanian pianist Gintaute Gataveckaite. The musical form of theme and variations has played a vital role in keyboard music from the Baroque period through to the present day. This recital brings together three of the greatest sets of variations written for the piano.

Starting with Busoni’s arrangement of Bach’s Chaconne, written in the form of variations, the recital will then continue with a lesser-known yet beautiful and technically demanding set by Beethoven, and finally conclude with one of the most celebrated and favourite sets of piano variations by Rachmaninoff, on a Theme of Corelli. Don’t miss this journey of virtuoso piano music in the unique surrounds of the Convent’s Oratory.

Program
Bach-Busoni Chaconne (after the Violin Partita No. 2 BWV 1004)
Beethoven 32 Variations on an Original Theme WoO 80
Rachmaninoff Variations on a Theme of Corelli Op. 42
