Ecopella is an environmentally themed choir visiting Melbourne for the first time in its 21 years of causing harmony to the environment.

This, the last of five concerts in Melbourne, will be a joint performance with local choir, Living Out Loud. Both ensembles will present original choral pieces of new Australian music. They are looking forward to the grand finale when both choir's will sing Sue Johnson's beautiful All The Wild Wonders.

Ecopella's strong environmental message encourages positive change in people's thoughts and actions, and it offer ssupport to a wide variety of green organisations.

Founded in 1998 by musical director Miguel Heatwole, Ecopella spread from its base in Sydney to form branches in the Blue Mountains, Illawarra, Southern Highlands, Canberra, Newcastle and the Central Coast. We have 746 performances to our credit, embracing a wide range of events: benefit concerts, protests, campaign launches, community gatherings and folk festivals.

You might expect a choir that sings about the environment to be a gloomy ensemble, but Ecopella's sense of fun fills each performance with positive and satirical messages. Even when the mood becomes serious the beauty and solemnity of the music is uplifting. Many of the pieces are original compositions and most of the arrangements are ours also. Stylistically our influences include classical, folk, popular songs, and occasionally jazz.

Living Out Loud is an extraordinary 16-voice a cappella vocal and percussion group with a special sound that reflects our 12-year history of singing together. We are based in Clifton Hill, Melbourne.

Living Out Loud has been fortunate enough to have the doyennes of Australian a cappella music directing them. Currently directed by Sue Johnson of Coco’s Lunch, the group was established by Tracey Miller and worked for 8 years with the inspirational Melanie Shanahan.

Living Out Loud’s repertoire reflects life's journey and all that it encompasses. Their songs, mostly locally written and arranged are contemporary, spiritual, and earthy, reflecting life's journey and all that it encompasses. Many of the songs, featuring words by local authors Meme McDonald, Elizabeth Honey and Rosalind Price, are about a sense of place and connecting to the elements, the landscape around us, and to each other. We are joyful, uplifting, and inspiring. We endeavor to make a positive contribution to our community through music and song.
